International Women's Day is about celebrating women's achievement, raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality.

This year Wandsworth Council is celebrating women whilst also working to keep them safe.

The council's Economic Development Office, which supports local businesses, is inviting women to sign up for the upcoming Women's Enterprise Day (March 24) and inviting nominations for the Wandsworth Enterprise Women's Awards to find the borough's most inspiring female entrepreneurs.

If you know of a female entrepreneur in the borough be sure to submit an entry here.

Wandsworth is a White Ribbon accredited organisation for its work tackling violence and abuse against women and will be publishing a three-year Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy .

White Ribbon is a global campaign that encourages people, in particular men and boys, to individually and collectively take action and change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence.

Back in August last year the council's housing department was awarded the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance accreditation charter mark recognising comprehensive and robust response to domestic abuse following a two-year project.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Kim Caddy said: "In Wandsworth we are proud to celebrate the very many successful women who bring so much to our local communities and business sector. We want to help create a gender equal world where women from all backgrounds can flourish and achieve.

"We will continue to work to keep women safe, to eliminate bias in Wandsworth Council as an organisation, and to ensure that women's voices are heard."

These are just a few of the things the council has done for women.
