St George's hospital saw almost half its Covid patients having received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, it can be revealed.

The figures for June at St George's Hospital in Tooting show 16 of 34 Covid patients had been given the vaccine.

Six had been fully vaccinated against the virus and 10 had been given one dose, according to data released under Freedom of Information powers.

A total of 18 patients had received no coronavirus vaccine.

NHS data from August 12 shows 229,330 first doses of the Covid jab have been given to the over 18s in Wandsworth and 178,305 adults have been double jabbed.

In the week ending August 11, Wandsworth had the third-highest infection rate in London with 343 cases per 100,000 of the population, according to London Datastore, managed by the Greater London Authority.

A further 133 people in Wandsworth tested positive for Covid-19 on August 16, taking the total to 33,485 since the pandemic started in the borough, according to government data.

The same figures show there has been one Covid death in Wandsworth in August so far.

There have been 437 coronavirus deaths in the borough since the pandemic began.

A St George's spokesperson said: "The vast majority of patients requiring hospital care are either unvaccinated or have only received one dose of the vaccine.

"We'd encourage anyone who is eligible to get both doses – this will give you the fullest possible protection against Covid-19, and reduce your risk of getting seriously ill from it or passing it on to others."

Previously, an FOI to Kingston Hospital showed four inpatients had been single jabbed and a further four double vaccinated in June with 14 in hospital without a vaccine.
