A Tooting mum has thanked the stranger who paid for her son's pancake supplies after the self-checkout machine wouldn't accept his note.
Gemma Clarke sent her eldest son to Tesco on Upper Tooting Road to get last-minute pancake supplies for the family.
When the machine didn't take the £10 note, the man came and tapped his card to pay for the goods.
Gemma said: "Just before he left the till, a gentleman next to him paying for his stuff, tapped his bank card for contactless payment on my son's shopping, said 'enjoy your pancake day' and walked off."
Upon arrival home Gemma's son reportedly handed back the note with a big smile.
"I was pleased for my son to have witnessed an act of kindness," Gemma told Nub News.
The story was told by Gemma on a popular social media forum and residents have been applauding the man.
One resident said: "I love this - everyone says how awful people are in London and it simply is not true - there are so many lovely acts of kindness going on all around us all the time."
Another resident stated: "Aw that is so lovely. Really great to hear."
Gemma has told Nub News that she is going to donate some extra shopping to Tooting Community Kitchen to 'pass on the kindness'.
