Residents in Wandsworth borough have been reminded to leave their Christmas trees out for collection sensibly as pictures have emerged of pavement blockages.

Commencing today (4 Jan) the council are collecting real Christmas trees for free as part of the usual bin rounds.

The free service is offered by the council every year and they're expecting to collect around 100,000 trees this year.

All of the trees will be turned into compost.

Putting the tree out sensibly

Liz Jarvis, Journalist and Parliamentary Candidate for the Lib Dems in 2019, today uploaded photos to social media of a Christmas Tree left on the pavement in Earlsfield.

Liz wrote: "Once again a lack of communication and trees on the pavements in Earlsfield making social distancing only possible by walking in the road."

Jo Rigby, Labour councillor and Earlsfield resident, has also spoken out about Christmas Trees left on the pavement in Earlsfield.

Jo states that some of the trees that were left out early by residents caused a hazard for disabled residents.

The collection service will run from Mon 4 Jan to Fri 15 Jan.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth Council said: "Remember please put it out sensibly so it doesn't get in everyone's way."
