Is Tooting a nice place to live?

This is the question we asked Tooting residents and business owners recently.

It's easy to quote Lonely Planet's placing of Tooting in the '10 coolest neighbourhoods of the world', but do actual residents agree?

We received countless comments from local people giving their thoughts on their area.

The answer... a resounding YES!

Besides the occasional moan about politics and a certain polarising road issue, the responses served as another reminder of why we are so lucky to live in Tooting.

You mentioned all of our unique offerings:

• Tooting and Broadway Market

• Tooting Bec Lido

• Tooting Common

• Countless eateries

• Pubs, pubs and more pubs!

You used these words the most:

• Community

• Diversity

• Independent business

• Food

So without further ado, here are the results of what was an extremely therapeutic and heartwarming process, your comments:

"There are so many brilliant features to Tooting, I'll never leave."

"My shout out would be to three outstanding small independent businesses; The Naked Loaf & Cut The Mustard in Furzedown & Walker Wyatt Coffee Shop run by the wonderful Suzanne."

"The amount of new ventures that are happening on a weekly basis."

"A place where people from different faiths and communities come together in difficult times to serve humanity. And a place that provides you with the freedom to practice your religion."

"FOOD! Plus diversity, strong sense of community, lots of greenery and leafy areas - Tooting Bec Common, Furzedown Rec with free tennis courts, football, skateboard area, play area for kids."

"The Furzedown Festival every year."

"It's vibrant because it is so cosmopolitan."

"Groceries - you can buy any fruit, veg, produce from any continent in Tooting!"

"Transport links."

"Excellent secondary school & primary schools."

"I love living in Tooting and have lived in Tooting or very nearby since since 1977. It's not just the living in a cosmopolitan place that's so pleasant and refreshing. It's the trouble most of us take not just to live alongside different cultures but to get to know each other, understand, take interest and respect each others differences."

"Tooting and Tooting Broadway Markets!"

"Great restaurants, cafes and eateries."

"Great pubs."

"Love the vibe in the market ... all high street banks are here, well connected by tube, bus and train. Gorgeous common close by and the amazing community feel to it."

"Good pubs and you can literally eat your way around the world (well nearly)"

"I love that my house overlooks Fishpond Field. It gives me a feeling of well-being."

"Since moving to Tooting 7 years ago, I don't want to live anywhere else, I was born in the West Mids, lived overseas - tropical islands. What's unique about Tooting is it's got something for everyone young & old, promotes education, entrepreneurs, community spirit, always improving."

"I love the diversity of Tooting's demographic and the buzzing highstreet and Tooting Market with independent shops - something for everyone."

"The family sense and feel of living in Tooting."
