A 'major incident' has been declared by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan as rising cases threaten to overwhelm hospitals and staff.

More than 800 patients a day are now being admitted to hospitals around the capital with COVID-19.

These rising cases are leaving hospitals like St George's under immense pressure.

Charity launches appeal

St George's Hospital Charity is again urging residents to donate to their Covid-19 appeal.

"We urge you again to support St Georges Covid Appeal," a spokesperson for the charity said.

"Throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic, our NHS staff have worked tirelessly, day in day out, to provide patients with the care they need. It is no surprise that our staff are tired, fatigued, overwhelmed which is why we need your support more than ever.

"We want to be there for them - and our most vulnerable patients."

St George's Hospital charity has been working closely with the hospital to understand what is the best way to help the current situation.

A spokesperson said: "With your support we will continue to provide our amazing staff with Wellbeing Boxes on a weekly basis, we will also fund additional iPads for patients so they can stay in contact with their loved ones, we will also provide fresh fruit to staff and so much more."

You can find more about the appeal here.
