If you are from South London and love football, you'll probably know that the area is one of the best in the UK - and even Europe - for producing great footballers, especially in recent years.

Tooting's has its fair share of goalscorers. Darren Bent was born here and has 106 Premier League goals to his name; Clinton Morrison too - he's scored 113 goals for Crystal Palace, making him fifth in the club's all-time top scorers list.

Michail Antonio's the latest local legend to be doing it at the very top, but what's special about Antonio is that he was actually playing for Tooting and Mitcham United Football Club until 2008 (when he was 18), scoring goals in the Isthmian League.

The BBC recently spoke to Ashely Bosah , Tooting and Mitcham's current manager - and it's refreshing to hear that Antonio hasn't forgotten his roots, even as West Ham's top goalscorer in the Premier League of all time.

He said: "The relationship between Michail and the club is ongoing.

"He comes in during the off-season and does some fun activities with the youth team - and his family is closely related to the club, so they hold a fun day during the summer.

"In the off-season, Michail hires the facilities out for his own individual programme too.

"You can see he is a humble character because he is still able to come down and be around the guys. When he is around, you get a sense there is no ego and is someone who comes down and engages with everyone.

"He is approachable. We try not letting the kids get too excited because he is there for his own training sessions - but when he has the time, he sits down to speak to coaches and others."

Antonio, who originally started playing for West Ham as a wing-back, is now sat at the top of the Premier League's goalscoring list alongside Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy with five goals from six games.

The 31-year-old has recently had his first cap for Jamaica.

While Antonio's achievements bring a great deal of pride to everyone involved with Tooting and Mitcham United, his success means more than that. It's evidence to young players coming through the system that they can do the same if they work hard.

Bosah spoke more about the impact of his legacy.

"That link between him and Tooting & Mitcham is a legacy that is an inspiration around the club and one that has left an imprint here," he said.

"We continue to produce players that go on to bigger and better things. What he left behind encouraged the chairman to continue his work. Players have reached the Championship, League One and League Two.

"There is a lot of continued development off the back of his legacy - so we're very proud to be linked to that. He seems to be an inspiration to the generation that came afterwards."

The Terrors play their football at Imperial Fields in Merton.

They have a home game this weekend vs Northwood FC. Why not go along and support the team - you might just spot the next Antonio.

You can get your tickets from the Tooting and Mitcham United website.
