Residents are divided over the development of a five-storey flat, restaurant and gym complex on Upper Tooting Road next to King's Head pub.

Prime Homes (SW London) put forward the application to demolish the existing site's buildings for the large development back in July 2019.

Some residents have called the development 'un-neighbourly' to the area and some surrounding neighbours have shared concerns that it will decrease natural daylight to their homes.

A Price Close resident, who would prefer to stay anonymous, told Nub News:

"The whole scheme is an over-development and the proposed design is out of character with the street scene of Price Close and Upper Tooting Road.

"There will be noise and disturbance during construction, then increased noise from bins being collected, deliveries and from the additional residents.

"This will cause stress for the residents of Price Close, many of whom are key workers and also several who are unwell with long term conditions, elderly or disabled."

James George of Holmbury Court said: "Our garden will lose most of its natural light, and is already limited to it with the mews buildings being close.

"As well as this the two doors and bedrooms facing the courtyard will also lose light therefore the Mews house at the end of the row should continue to be single storey."

In a response to the application's feedback, Prime Homes made a number of revised changes including changing one of their proposed buildings to two storeys instead of three.

In an evaluation of their feedback to comments, Prime Houses said:

"By the use of carefully considered design this development can be completed without compromising the character of the area or the environmental and living quality of neighbouring properties.

"With its appropriate siting, height, mass and orientation we believe that the proposal to build a new residential-led scheme will not be overbearing or reduce the neighbouring properties access to daylight or impact the neighbour's privacy."

Some residents have shown support for the development and feel that the new building will be a good replacement for the current site.

Abdul Hai Bhuiyan of Upper Tooting Road said:

"I have no objections to the proposed development. I think this is a good scheme which will be good for the area, especially Price Close.

"At the moment these old buildings are not a good sight and these need to be replaced with modern houses as they have shown in the proposals. I am happy that the proposed scheme has family houses."

The development will be going to a committee on 22nd October.
