A new plaque commemorating a former Tooting Olympian has been unveiled.
Albert Hill, who lived between the years of 1889-1969, won the gold medal in both the 800m and 1500m at the Antwerp Olympics in 1920.
Tooting athletes Jade Johnson and Eric Boateng - who have both represented Great Britain at the summer games - pulled down the ribbon to reveal the new plaque on Saturday (July 24).
Hill used to live on 94 Trevelyan Road, Tooting, which is where his honourary plaque was unveiled.
The former Tooting resident a WW1 veteran and also the first Briton to win a double in the 800m and 1500m events.
The event coincided with the start of the Tokyo Olympics. At the games, Herne Hill Harriers athlete Katie Snowden is representing Team GB in the 1500m event.
Many people congregated outside of the local legend's former house as Geoff Simmons, the founder of the Summerstown 182 Community History Project , hosted the event.
Funds were raised for the plaque thanks to donations from local residents and the help of pupils from Fincroft Primary School.
The event saw a mixture of performances, speeches and historical information to remember the great life of Albert Hill.
