Tooting Community Kitchen has been serving the vulnerable fresh food and produce for almost two years now.

Starting as one table outside Iceland near Tooting Market in 2018, the community kitchen has grown into a multi-day and multi-area project which serves to feed those in need.

The kitchen offers meals cooked by resident chef Ollie, as well as Chicken Biriyani which is cooked by Lahore Spice Tooting.

Volunteers also cook up vegetables on a rota basis.

The kitchen also offers food parcels that guests can take home for cooking.

The guests who visit Tooting Community Kitchen come from a range of different living situations and the ethos at TCK is to 'never differentiate'.

Co-founder, Sahar Beg, told Nub News: "If someone got out of a flashy car and asked for a hot meal we would never turn them down."

"We never differentiate and we never ask."

The kitchen is passionate about truly living up to their community name. Every person involved is a volunteer and no one takes anything away.

"This is a community kitchen in every sense of the word," Sahar continued.

"Our volunteers work with us because they want to give something back. We've seen so many people wanting to help."

Meals served at the kitchen are home cooked and nutritious - pre cooked with fresh donated ingredients.

"The guests feel special and looked after through our food," Sahar added.

"They know that it's being cooked especially for them. It gives many a sense of purpose."

Tooting Community Kitchen operates two days a week outside Tooting Market.

Saturday is its biggest day with five tables - while a newly instated Wednesday session operates with one table.

The kitchen has had to change its operation slightly since coronavirus hit the UK.

Hot drinks are no longer able to be served following restrictions against gathering groups.

Sahar said: "Often people just want to come for a chat, which we've obviously had to limit now.

"You really do get to know the guests and we've got so many stories of helping people through tough times."

Tooting Community Kitchen will be in operation from 6pm tomorrow outside Iceland.
