Tooting: New episode of 24 Hours in A&E airs tonight with memorable moments from St George's

Local News by Tommy Joyce 31st Aug 2021

A new episode of 24 Hours in A&E will be airing tonight - and it will feature some memorable moments at St George's.

The award-winning 24 hours in A&E returns with a series of compilations featuring some of the most memorable staff and patient stories filmed since 2011 at King's College Hospital and St George's in South London – places where life, love and loss unfold every day.

This episode features three patients filmed at St George's Hospital who are all in immediate need of different types of care. It will be on from 9pm (August 31) on Channel 4.

5-year-old Isa is rushed to A&E after being hit by a car and trapped underneath it. Witnesses had to lift the car so he could be treated by paramedics. Doctors send Isa for scans, suspecting that the impact may have caused serious internal damage, as well as significant head injuries.

21-year-old drama student Florian has come to A&E with fellow drama student Jake, having tripped and hurt his foot rushing to class. Jake and Florian rehearse lines in the waiting room. As Florian is seen by emergency care practitioner Declan, he explains how he and his family fled war in Kosovo when he was a child and the sacrifices made by his father to get his family to safety.

And 83-year-old Harry has collapsed while out shopping. He's short of breath and has chest pains and dizziness. Harry has been widowed for 35 years and describes himself as 'an independent old bugger'. As a younger man Harry spent time working on fairgrounds. "I was on the Waltzers, the best five and a half years of my life," he says.
