Tooting: Multicoloured 'uplighting' the next step for Balham Railway Bridge hopes councillor

Balham Railway Bridge has had another lick of paint - but it's not done yet, hopes one local councillor.

Sarah McDermott, a conservative councillor for the Nightingale ward, has been campaigning with Network Rail to improve the aesthetic of the bridge, and it now has a dark green coating.

McDermott already says that Balham is looking "so much smarter", however, McDermott is hoping for more and is pushing for "uplighting".

The councillor says that this multi-coloured uplighting could change depending on the situation, for example, they could light up as red for remembrance Sunday.

She said: "We've worked with our officers who pushed Network Rail, who collaborated - and suddenly we got the paint.

"The next thing, we hope - we're pushing and pushing - is to get some uplighting.

"We could have different colours, for example on Remembrance Sunday we could have it light up as raid, or if it was Pride we could have it as all of the colours of the rainbow.

"All being well we will get that but need to keep pushing.

"But we're really pleased that they're doing the painting - it makes Balham look so much smarter."
