Local Herne Hill Harriers athlete Katie Snowden has qualified for the semi-finals of the 1500m race in Tokyo.

The Balham-based runner managed to complete her personal best time for the event, completing the race in four minutes and 2.77 seconds.

In the early hours of this morning (August 2), Snowden finished sixth in her race, meaning she had done enough to qualify alongside her fellow Team GB athlete Laura Muir, who finished second in her heat.

Snowden will now have a day's rest before her next race, which will be happening at 11am on Wednesday (August 4).

The 1500m runner grew up in Balham and has been a regular at Tooting Bec Athletics Track since she was young. In a recent interview with Nub News , the 27-year-old told us that she backed the petition to relay the surface on the athletics track, which finished yesterday.

You can find out more about the petition by going to its online page.
