Fire crews from Tooting, Mitcham and Wimbledon were called to a house fire in Tooting yesterday evening (June 17).

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters arrived at the accidental house fire on Selkirk Road, which was said to be caused by a light fitting.

Part of the second floor of a mid-terraced house was damaged by the fire.

There were no reports of any injuries as all residents were out of the building when the crews arrived.

The brigade was called at 10.02pm and the fire was under control by 10.58pm.

Station Officer Tom Furnell said: "On arrival, we could see smoke coming from the roof and flames were coming out from a velux window.

"Crews quickly gained access and worked to bring the fire under control and make the scene safe.

"All residents were already out of the building on arrival and crews reassured neighbours and provided fire safety advice to those in the local area.
