The South London Swimming Club has reached their fundraising target to hire a full-time winter lifeguard for Tooting Bec Lido.

The membership has more than doubled during the pandemic - which saw 8,300 swimmers dip into the Lido this October, compared to 3,600 last year.

The SLSC members have exclusive access to the Lido in the winter - and they are constricted by how many lifeguards are hired.

A spokesperson for South London Swimming Club said: "By adding an extra member to our lifeguarding team, we can continue welcoming all the current swimmers and the many joining us for the first time who want to take the plunge this winter."

People who donated to the fundraiser were offered a range of different gifts - from a tin of Miss TeaSmith tea for £7 to having their name spelt out by swimmers for £1000.

At the time of writing the fundraiser has amassed £13,486, exceeding their target of £13,000.

The club is now trying to reach their stretch target of £15,000.

There are 8 days left to donate, you can find out more here.
