A brand new episode of 24 Hours in A&E which is based in Tooting will be airing tonight (July 5).
Filmed during the autumn of 2020, the RTS award-winning documentary series returns for a twenty-fourth series following patients treated in the same 24-hour period at St George's in southwest London. The hospital has one of the busiest A&E departments in Britain – a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day.
This episode explores the stories of three people who have all experienced unique losses in life and how they have navigated them with love, strength and positivity.
56-year-old Wendy is rushed to St George's with an open ankle fracture after falling in her garden. Wendy recalls the isolation she felt at losing both her parents at a very young age, and how meeting her husband Nigel was her salvation.
84-year-old Ioannis comes to A&E with pain in his elbow after collapsing at home following a bout of dizziness. His children Harry and Helena recount their father's bravery in moving from his native Cyprus to the UK over 50 years ago to raise his family. They tell of Ioannis' positive influence as a loving father and the difficulties in watching him suffer declining health in more recent years.
Meanwhile, 68-year-old Fred is brought in after he had been experiencing chest pain at home. Fred tells us of his memories of growing up in South London, his youthful love for travel and a lifelong career on the railway all of which were thwarted by him later requiring a leg amputation.
