Tooting: 'Cancel all your plans' - Junior Parkrun sets return date, but work to do

Tooting Common's Junior Parkrun has set a return date - but much work is required before it restarts.

Both the junior and adults Parkrun have been suspended in recent months due to coronavirus, however, both now are set to resume.

Junior Parkrun has announced that Sunday August 29 is the date to put in the diary, which is just over a month away.

However, considering Parkrun is entirely ran by volunteers, gaining the right amount of volunteers is a necessity if it is to go ahead.

A spokesperson for Tooting Junior Parkrun said: "We are coming back. We have a date. Cancel all your plans and put 29th August in your diary.

"We have waited a long time but in a month, we will get to see the grins of children running and walking around Tooting Common again.

"But we have work to do. We have to re-engage the community and get you all to volunteer.

"For those who don't know, Parkrun is run by volunteers. We need 20 people each week to step up and help.

"No volunteers, no Parkrun. So, drop us a line. It's easy.

"And for those who feel like they want to get involved more regularly, we have vacancies on our core team. It's not as daunting as it sounds. It's great fun and very rewarding."

What is Tooting Common Junior Parkrun?

Junior Parkrun is a running event aimed specifically at those aged between 4-14.

Similarly to the adults run, it takes place on Tooting Common (SW16 1RT), however, the distance is 2km rather than 5km.

Usually, it would be taking place every Sunday at 9am, but due to Covid-19, it has been put on hold.

The run is completely free and is for all abilities. You can register online for an event online.
