Residents speak out about 'serious problem of human excrement' found in Tooting Common
A group of local residents has contacted Wandsworth Council and Enable Parks about a number of 'urgent' issues currently facing Tooting Common.
The letter addresses issues such as poor conditioned grassland and woodland, waterlogging and even human excrement reportedly being found regularly.
FOTC (Friends Of Tooting Common) is a collection of local residents who are passionate about making Tooting Common the best it can be.
FOTC has requested that portaloos are provided while the two public toilets remain out of use.
Part of the letter reads: "We are not at all clear why portaloos are not being provided, since they are being provided on Wandsworth Common and Battersea Park while toilets are out of action there.
"We do therefore ask for temporary provision of portaloos on Tooting Common, to avoid unsanitary and inappropriate use of bushes and wooded areas, and so that the Common is of course treated on the same basis as the other large greenspaces in the borough."
The group goes on to ask when 'clear signage' will be installed to point people to available toilets, which they say was agreed needed to be done several years ago.
Waterlogging has persisted in some parts of the Common from heavy usage last summer and rainfall earlier this year.
"Without urgent action, this poor condition is likely to worsen yet further with the likely high usage of the Common again over this summer," a spokesperson for FOTC said.
Tooting Nub News has approached Enable Parks and Wandsworth Council for comment and will update this story accordingly.
