On Thursday (15 Jan), Nub News reported on a 'shower of coffee cups' that had been pictured seemingly littered on Tooting Common.

This article will detail the response received to the article both on social media and directly in our emails.

The original poster of the litter photo said they saw at least thirty coffee cups near Emmanuel Road and around the Common.

The response on social media

"This is so disgusting. It is a common space for everyone! How can people be so selfish - I cannot comprehend."

"I think you just have to live with it. Either that or demand a few more bins and get some big-writing cartoony posters up about taking your litter home."

"Strange that takeaway coffee is still allowed as essential. Admittedly, I can't function without coffee, but at least I know how to make it for myself."

"I only recognise one that looks like the cafe on the common cup. So if people can carry them from tooting or Balham then carry them home."

"Stop the selling of coffee on the street?"

"Larger bins!? should be smaller coffee's first, who needs large jugs of coffee like that anyway."

Direct response

"This is a common occurrence in the common and something needs to be done about it. The answer to that though I do not know."

"I think we as a society need to be better at looking after our surroundings and each other. I don't understand how people can be so selfish."

Tooting Nub News is waiting on a response from Wandsworth Council.
