Planning application for 15m mast in Earlsfield has 49 objections in five days

A recent planning application submission has had received 49 objections in just five days.

The proposal is to place a new 15m telecommunications mast in Earlsfield, directly next to a Swaby Gardens and Swaby Gardens Playground.

The application is currently in progress and the council is taking comments on the plans.

The application was made by CK Hutchinson Networks, the business which runs Three in the UK - a telecommunications and internet provider that provides 3G, 4G and 5G services.

It says the plan is for the "installation of 15m monopole with wraparound cabinet and ancillary works", with the mast to go up on Aldrich Terrace / Lidiard Road, SW18 3PU.

As per the planning application, which can be read online, building works for the mast are hoped to begin in November 2021, with the project being finished by December 2021.

However, since comments have been accepted since November 11, there have been 49 objections to the plans from local residents.

One objection by Mr Neale, who lives on Swarby Road himself, said there are better locations for a mast.

He wrote: "The area is a conservation area and residential development is very tightly controlled. It is not appropriate to have a mast here, particularly given its location next to a park and between 2 primary schools. There are better locations in the area for such a mast."

Another local woman, Mrs H Dexter, said it would be "totally unneeded" within her objection.

"No thank you! This is a totally unneeded addition to an already crowded neighbourhood - we don't need extra

stuff! Please don't add more unnecessary and unneeded technological things. Thanks", she wrote.

If you would like to have your say on the mast or have a look through the application, you can do so via this link on the Wandsworth Council website.
