Trees have been planted on Mitcham Road, Tooting as part of Wandsworth Council's climate change initiative.

As part of the initiative 1,000 trees will be planted across the borough over the next two years.

Each tree is fitted with a slow release watering bag, called a tree gator which will help the trees take root and establish themselves.

The bags hold 68 litres of water.

These tree gators promote deep root growth and ensured that all water is consumed by the tree, prevent wasteage. They last five years which means they can be used reused on newly planted trees and are fully recyclable when they need changing. Residents can get involved by joining the Wandsworth Tree Warden network. The group keeps a close eye on their local trees and notify the council if any of the trees look like they might be suffering from disease. Got a story?
