The former Tooting Police Station building is now available for development opportunities following the relocation of all situated officers.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth Police said that the building 'fails to provide a modern policing facility that is fit for the 21st century'.

The closure is part of the 'Met's Estate Transformation programme' which aims to invest in modern buildings and support new ways to accommodate the force.

Wandsworth Police added: "In turn, this will ensure our staff provide the best possible service to London and local communities."

The building is being offered as a development opportunity from Knight Frank Estate Agents.

The existing accommodation extends to approximately 6,603 square metres and the site measures 0.847 acres.

Nick Alderman of Knight Frank Estate Agents told Nub News: "I am afraid the ultimate use is unknown given a purchaser hasn't been selected and we are running a marketing campaign currently.

"It's likely different parties will have their own ideas for the future uses."

An advertisement for the opportunity says: "The site is being offered for sale by informal tender and unconditional offers are sought for the freehold interest."

Residents have been vocal about their sadness at seeing the police station close.

One resident said: "Absolute travesty."

Another said: "It would be awesome if this was going to be a community facility, no doubt this will be luxury flats."

Police officers who were situated in the building wished goodbye to it on social media last month.

Writing on Twitter, Tooting Town Police said: "PC Watford called it home since 1977 give or take and PC Starzyk for four years."

A video was made to reminisce the officer's memories of the station, you can view it HERE.
