Councillors have approved plans to turn the vacant Debenham store in Wandsworth town centre into an indoor entertainment hub complete with an indoor go-karting track, bowling alley and crazy golf course.
The store in the Southside shopping centre closed its doors to customers in January after Debenhams' parent company had entered administration in April 2019.
Now it is set to reopen as a major entertainment and amusement centre with associated bars and restaurants.
What will be inside?
Electric-powered go-karts will be raced on the ground floor, while the mezzanine will offer a family entertainment centre and high ropes climbing. The first floor will be used for bowling, indoor golf, darts, pool and basketball with restaurants.
Councillors on the planning applications committee approved the proposals at their meeting on Thursday.
Planning chairman Cllr Guy Humphries said:
"This will be an exciting new addition to the town centre and we welcome the significant investment and jobs this new commercial venture will create.
"No one can deny that the loss of Debenhams was a blow but the new use of that space will provide a welcome boost to the town centre's fortunes by attracting more visitors and shoppers."
