A Colliers Wood resident has warned the community after he says a large sum of money was stolen from him through an ATM scam.
Writing on social media, Anthony Whitcombe says a man put something into the ATM machine at the Tesco Esso Petrol Station before he used it, which ate his card and cash.
Mr Whitcombe said: "I don't really know how he did it but he did something to the machine before I used it and that was it. Card gone. Money gone.
"And he used the card in the high street before the penny dropped and I stopped the card.
"If I hadn't seen him I may have simply assumed there was a card problem and he'd have used it all day. Expensive day. Be aware."
Many other residents came forward on social media with stories of similar scams happening to them.
One resident added: "This happened to us a few years ago - we had our card cloned and the police said petrol station cash points are notoriously prone to scammers and cloning and it's best to use other cash points in supermarkets or at banks."
Another resident said: "Those devices that they fit to the machine have got much more discreet than they used to be. They're really hard to spot.
"And of course with contactless they don't even need the camera in it for the PIN as they used to do. Sorry you were robbed like that."
Another resident added: "I always go inside a bank to get money out."
