In an exclusive interview with ITV News, a Consultant in Intensive Care at St George's has spoken out about the stress the hospital is currently under.
Dr Dominic Spray told ITV: "We haven't been able to magically double the number of intensive care nurses we've got in the last two months.
"So we're having to ask our intensive care nurses to work harder.
"They're looking after two to four patients each rather than one or two they would usually look after.
"They're doing extra shifts, it's physically demanding for them so they're worn out.
"Perhaps, what upsets them more than anything is not being able to concentrate on their care on one or two patients and having to spread it out amongst those wider patients.
"Even with the excellent support they get from the ward nurses that we've up-skilled to help."
St George's staff previously spoke to the BBC about how the virus is affecting care at the hospital.
