'End of an era': Tooting Police say goodbye to historic Tooting Police Station

By The Editor 29th Oct 2020

Tooting Town Police have today wished their goodbyes to the historic Tooting Police Station on Twitter.

It was revealed last month that all of the personnel currently housed in the building would be relocated to different areas.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth Police said that the building 'fails to provide a modern policing facility that is fit for the 21st century'.

The closure is part of the 'Met's Estate Transformation programme' which aims to invest in modern buildings and support new ways to accommodate the force.

Wandsworth Police added: "In turn, this will ensure our staff provide the best possible service to London and local communities."

Writing on Twitter, Tooting Town Police said: "PC Watford called it home since 1977 give or take and PC Starzyk for four years."

A video has been made to reminisce on the memories of the station, view it HERE.

One resident said: "Start of a new era."

Another resident said: "Oh no, what an iconic building...hopefully its being kept?"
