Tooting: Video shows mile queue and buses at standstill as petrol crisis continues

Queues for petrol are continuing to cause severe delays on roads around Tooting.

In the video above, you can see queues going for around a mile as people try to fill up from the Tesco petrol station on Balham High Road.

A number of buses can be seen virtually at a standstill while cars wait in the queue in the hope of being able to fill their cars up.

While the Tesco station had a refill yesterday, it is unclear how long it will be until it runs out again.

There have been similar scenes elsewhere in Tooting.

On Plough Lane, there are lengthy queues on either side of the Shell garage, as you can see from the AA's traffic updates.

At the BP garage on Trinity Road - near Tooting Bec station - there is still slow traffic , however, there is currently no fuel available from that station.

Lee Christensen ( @wreckeddeco on Twitter ), who took the video, says that he feels sorry for the buses that aren't able to get anywhere.

He said: "With the queues, I just think do you really need fuel that bad that you'll waste an hour or two waiting?

"Drop the car at home for the week and try cycling, walking or public transport for those that can - that would help out more than anything.

"People are still driving short distances for the school run etc and causing these tailbacks.

"Feel sorry for those on buses that can't get anywhere - doing the right thing and being held up by all the empty three-seat sofas in the back of cars.

"No idea how long it was taking but if other days are to go by, the fuel will be gone by lunchtime - and they'll do it all again tomorrow."
