Nightingale Police reveal number of thefts this month as they hold extra patrols

Nightingale Ward Police have revealed the number of burglaries this month to Nub News and issued advice to residents to keep their belongings safe.

A spokesperson for Nightingale Police told Nub News that there have been four thefts in the area since the beginning of the month.

Two of the burglaries occurred were from a bike storage area which was located inside the buildings complex.

Earlier this month we reported on a heartbroken Balham resident who had their bike stolen from inside their home.

Nightingale Police have told Nub News that they're holding extra patrols around the ward and focusing specifically on the increase in 'schoolboy robberies' and thefts of motor vehicles.

They have issued a statement to residents on social media giving advice on how to keep their property safe.

The statement reads: "Recently there has been a large number of high powered vehicles, particularly Land Rovers / Range Rovers which have been targeted and stolen.

"We ask could owners please be aware and secure their vehicles thoroughly."

What advice has been issued?

- Always double check your car is physically secure and alarmed, especially when using keyless locking systems.

- Keep keys out of sight inside your property; don't leave near doors, windows or out on worktops.

- Consider a signal-blocking pouch to keep your keys in, readily available on the internet for a low cost.

- Use a steering wheel lock.

- Consider investing in a tracking device. Whilst it won't necessarily stop the vehicle from being stolen, it will significantly increase the chances of locating it and recovering it.
