Tooting Nub News aims to support our community, promoting shops, businesses, charities, clubs and sports groups.
We will be profiling some of these businesses and organisations regularly in a feature called "Up Close in Tooting."
Today we caught up with Amy Adams, the Furzedown photographer creating a brand new photo book called 'Wild About Tooting & Furzedown'.
Amy Adams moved to Tooting in 1997 after falling in love with its 'upbeat and vibrant vibe' in her early twenties.
Many visits to Tooting's wonderful eateries and bars meant Amy experienced the warm and welcoming people of the area - which she says encouraged her to fulfil her dream of bringing up a family in South London.
Amy bought a house on the Totterdown Estate on Derinton Road in 1997 and lived there until 2007.
In search of a quieter life for her young family and a bigger house, she moved on to Dahomey Road on the fringes of Furzedown, where her and her family currently reside happily.
The road to creating Wild About Tooting & Furzedown.
Amy was obsessed with photography from a child and had a camera in her hand from the age of eight.
"I was lucky enough to have Photography available to study at my local comprehensive school," Amy told Nub News.
"The school had a dark room and a kindly teacher helped me to develop my photography skills and do well in my CSE exam.
"It continued to be a passion of mine throughout my school years."
Amy took her passion and followed it - studying photography at Manchester and Goldsmiths University.
From there she worked as a film editing assistant in Soho, crafting adverts for television.
Amy began offering her skills as a photographer through regular freelance work, covering events and most recently contributing to the 24 Photographers Group.
Amy's photographic experience of lockdown was shown on the BBC website.
For the past two years she's used her skills to document the area that she holds so dearly to her.
"Furzedown is like a little London village with huge amounts of community spirit and everyone is accepted here," Amy said.
"It's a real creative hub with art workshops, independent cafes, shops and every year it has its own festival which I capture in the book.
"It's a really special creative community.
"Tooting is welcoming and accepting, plus has bags of warmth and kindness.
"It has the amazing common which evokes feelings of peace and calm plus the blue water of Lido with its iconic colourful doors."
The book will be added to the already established collection of 'Wild About' books created by Andrew Wilson; including 'Wild about Richmond and Kew', 'Wild about Putney' and more.
Amy describes Tooting as having everything in one place, describing 'the buzz of the city and the cultural diversity' mixed with 'an outdoor space that is tranquil and calm'.
Amy added: "Maybe this book can help people be transported to another place."
Amy is fundraising to help with the cost of designing, publishing and distributing the book.
£1 of every sale will be going to South London Swimming Club to assist with the running of Tooting Bec Lido.
