As Christmas approaches, St George's Charity is asking for local residents to show some support for the thousands of patients who will be away from their loved ones.
Christmas is always difficult for patients who can't be with their family and friends, and it's the same for staff who will miss out on precious time with their close ones, especially in the pandemic.
The charity is asking for people to show their care by getting involved with some of their Christmas activities. From donning a santa hat, buying festive greetings cards, or even snapping up a gift in a virtual auction.
Here are some of the ways you can support the charity during the festive season:
- Bid for George's – Snap up some fantastic prizes and presents at our virtual Christmas auction from Monday 6th December to Wednesday 22nd December
- Gifts for George's - This year, give the gift of Christmas and buy a virtual present to show your support for St George's Hospital
- Cards for St George's - Spread some Festive cheer with a St George's Christmas card and support our amazing hospital at the same time
- Give to George's - Show you care this year and give to support the incredible work of St George's Hospital.
All of the money raised will support our staff, patients and their families this Christmas and into the New Year.
Jane Wescott, Senior Sister on Dalby Ward said: "The hospital doesn't shut at Christmas, it's actually the time when your patients need you the most. But it's been a tough year. We're still recovering from the pandemic and we haven't had a break. We are now dealing with rising infections on top of really sick patients who delayed coming into hospital when everything was at its peak.
"If I could, I'd split myself into 10 more people, that would be the ideal! But the most important thing is that we're all going through it together.
"It means such a lot to know that people out there are thinking of us and are grateful for what we do. It keeps us going. Sometimes we can think, oh, we might be forgotten about, but we aren't and it means so much."
