In 1980, legendary rock band The Police played in a Tooting Common circus tent.

Photos have been circulating of the iconic performance by attendee Debbie Nugent.

The December performance saw 5,000 people attend.

Debbie Nugent told Nub News: "Well it was obviously a Tooting school girl's dream. Also very surreal to have The Police, one of the biggest bands at the time, play in our back yard.

"Felt like a very intimate gig - it was really, looking back on it now. I couldn't quite believe it was actually happening.

"Gutted I missed out on catching Sting's school master cloak when he threw it out into the crowd after Don't Stand So Close to Me."

Local historian Geoff Simmons, who runs history tours in the area, says that the concert was originally due to be held at the Oval Cricket Ground.
