A Tooting resident has warned the community after their car was broken into on Otterburn Street.

Lynda Bennet and her boyfriend found their car ransacked on Sunday morning (2nd November).

The perpetrator took Lynda's disabled badge, a pair of Ray-Bans and all of her birthday presents and cards from the boot.

Writing on social media, Lynda said: "Last night my boyfriend and I returned home from about 10:30.

"We parked in Otterburn St but he went out to retrieve something from the car and possibly forgot to lock it.

"This morning, glove box open and papers strewn everywhere. Nothing really valuable in there except my disabled badge and boyfriend's Ray-Bans.

"Please lock up your valuables to prevent these despicable and cowardly thefts."

The community have been responding to Lynda's story, with some residents reporting similar instances on Saturday night.

One comment said: "Same happened to me last night on Pitt Crescent, glove box searched as well as armrest storage, etc. Wired as car had been left locked."

Another resident advised: "You may not have left your car open - it happened to me and my husband a few times before we realised that the thieves have a computer that can talk to your car key, if it is in range of the car they can get in without having to break in.

"Now we take our keys to bed with us on the other side of the house so they are out of range."
