Pupils in Secondary and Primary Schools across Tooting and areas of the capital will have a delay in returning to school this term.
Secondary Schools and Colleges
The delay will effect secondary school and college students across all Tier Four regions.
Pupils in exam years will begin their studies on January 11th.
Non-exam year students are set to go back on January 18th to allow mass testing to be put in place at the school.
Universities will reduce the number of students allowed on their campuses.
All university students will be offered two rapid tests on their return to their studies.
Primary Schools
The government has announced that primary school students in Wandsworth and some areas of London will not be returning as planned.
Those whose parents are key workers may still attend and early years provision is allowed to continue.
The closure of primary schools will be reviewed on 18 January.
[H3] Tooting and the rest of the capital is to remain in Tier 4 [H3]
But what does Tier 4 mean?
Under Tier 4 restrictions, non-essential shops, hairdressers and leisure and entertainment venues will close, with a new 'stay at home' message introduced.
People who need to travel for education or childcare will be exempt, and exercise will be unlimited. Where people cannot work from home, they are still able to travel to work.
I am in Tier 4. What does that mean for travel?
Unless there is an essential reason for you to travel – for work, education, medical treatment, caring responsibilities and urgent compassionate reasons such as to visit someone who is terminally ill – you will be expected to stay at home.
