Tooting: Police confirm fire in Tooting is fatal

A fire in Tooting has been confirmed as fatal.

A woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found dead in her home after a fire happened within a house on Fountain Road, as per My London.

Police were called by the London Fire Brigade yesterday evening (July 7) at around 11pm following reports of a fire.

The woman's next of kin have been informed and an investigation is ongoing, though, at this stage, the police are not treating it as suspicious.

Met Police statement

A spokesperson said: "Police were called by London Fire Brigade at approximately 11.15pm on Wednesday, July 7 to reports of a fire at a residential address in Fountain Road, SW17.

"The body of a woman, believed aged in her 40s, was found deceased inside the address.

"Next of kin have been informed.

"While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, at this early stage police are not treating the incident as suspicious.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
