Tooting: Man arrested for attempted rape of 60-year-old woman
An arrest has been made for the attempted rape of a 60-year-old woman in Tooting who may have suffered life changing injuries.
Police were called to Garratt Lane at 2:11am today (Thursday, December 9) after receiving reports of a serious assault.
A woman was found with head injuries and transported to a local hospital by paramedics.
Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening but have been assessed as potentially life changing.
A 47-year-old man was located nearby and arrested for Grievous Bodily Harm and Attempted Rape.
He remains in custody and crime scenes are in place on Mapleton Road, the Entrance to King George's Park and The Old Sergeant Bus Stop.
A spokesperson for Wandsworth Police said: "On Thursday 09th December at 02:11 hours, police received a call to Garratt Lane regarding a serious assault.
"Police arrived on scene and found a 60 year old woman with head injuries. London Ambulance Service attended and transported the victim to a local hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be not life threatening but potentially life changing.
"A 47-year-old man was located nearby and arrested for Grievous Bodily Harm and Attempted Rape. He is currently in custody.
"Crime scenes are currently in place on Mapleton Road, the Entrance to King George's Park and The Old Sergeant Bus Stop.
