Balham-based athlete Katie Snowden has missed out on a spot in the finals for the 1500m.

In the 27-year-old's semi-final, she finished ninth, recording a time of four minutes and 2.93 seconds.

Snowden needed to finish in the top five in her semi-final or record one of the best two times outside of the top five in the two semi-finals, and unfortunately, she was unable to achieve this.

The Herne Hill Harriers athlete can hold her head high, recording a strong time in the semis and even getting her personal best in the previous heat (four minutes and 2.77 seconds).

Ranking 22 in the world, reaching the final was always going to be a tall order for Snowden. With the middle-distance runner missing the whole of the 2019 season with injuries, reaching this stage is still a remarkable feat.

Fellow Team GB 1500m runner Laura Muir finished second in her semi-final and has qualified for the final on Friday.

The 1500m runner grew up in Balham and has been a regular at Tooting Bec Athletics Track since she was young. In a recent interview with Nub News , the 27-year-old told us that she backed the petition to relay the surface on the athletics track, which finished recently.

You can find out more about the petition by going to its online page.
