Police teams from Mitcham seized five large knives and a number of drugs yesterday (July 14).

Merton Police announced on Facebook that they had made two arrests in relation to their findings.

A team that was on patrol in an unmarked police minibus drove past a group hanging around two vehicles. This group quickly dispersed upon seeing the van which led to a chase where the group managed to get away.

When returning to the vehicles the police found two men near the car and noticed that there were drugs in the rear of the car.

After searching the car the police found drugs as well as five large knives. Both males were arrested.

A post from Merton Police said: "Teams from Mitcham SNT were on patrol in a marked police mini bus when they clocked a group hanging about near a vehicle. Upon seeing the blue and yellow squares on the side of the bus, the group star-bursted throughout the local estate. We hadn't even had the chance to say a single hello, let alone three, so our officers gave chase but unfortunately the group had disappeared.

"Upon returning to the two vehicles, our team found two males near the car and promptly said the aforementioned greeting. Noticing that the rear of the car was covered in drugs, their hellos became more questioning in nature.

"Searching the vehicle quickly answered the reason for the group's dispersal.

"A quantity of drugs were located along with the 5 large knives pictured. Both males were arrested, the weapons seized and the investigation continues…"
