Tooting Common's police team will be using all-electric vehicles in the near future.

Parks Police will be replacing its fleet of vehicles with electric motors that produce zero emission and comply with low emission standards.

The vehicles will travel across the borough for day to day patrolling of the parks and open spaces, with Tooting Commons being patrolled daily.

Two EV charging points have been installed at the depot and the Parks Police is awaiting delivery of the new vehicles.

Tooting Commons Management Advisory Committee (TCMAC) have expressed their delight at the news.

Oliver Griffiths, chair of TCMAC said: "This is all good news for protecting our environment, reducing carbon emissions whilst protecting the air quality in our parks and commons."

Commenting, Inspector Steve Biggs told the TCMAC, "Our current fleet of three vehicles is nearing the end of its life, and the new all electric fleet will assist the Council in achieving its wider aims around air quality."

Wandsworth Parks Police is aiming to be the first parks team in the country to have all electric vehicles and to lead the way in relation to urban greening, carbon reduction and air quality. The Parks Police also use E-Cargo bikes, which not only help to reduce carbon emissions but also allows them to get to certain areas more quickly, and help the officers engage with the local community better as the public are able to wave them down if they need to speak to them.

The Wandsworth Environmental and Sustainability Strategy (WESS) sets out the Council's ambitions for the next ten years in relation to urban greening, carbon reduction, air quality by working with the community to combat climate change and improve our environment and our neighbourhoods - keeping them green, clean and safe.
