Tooting: Church Lane closed to traffic until around 8pm as Shia Muslims celebrate Ashura

Church Lane in Tooting will be closed to traffic for this afternoon as Shia Muslims observe the day of Ashura.

Pedestrians can still walk through as usual, however, no cars or busses will be allowed through.

Church Lane will be closed between the junctions at Mitcham Road and Eswyn Road.

According to Tooting Newsie , the main procession began at around 2pm and the road should be back open by 8pm.

Many Shia Muslims will be celebrating at Idara-e-Jaaferiya - the Shia Muslim Mosque on Church Lane.
