25th Nov 2021 | Local News
The second Bedford ward by-election of the year is taking place today.
Following the resignation of former Labour councillor Hannah Stanislaus following claims of bullying, there is now space for another councillor in the ward.
The by-election is taking place today (November 25) - and don't worry, there's still time to get out and vote if you are within the ward and have registered to vote.
Here's all you need to know.
Who's standing
There are four candidates four the by-election, from the Labour, Conservative, Green and Liberal Democrat parties.
Sheila Boswell is standing for the Labour Party.
Thomas Mytton is standing for the Conservative Party.
Roy Vickery is standing for The Green Party.
Paul Tibbles is standing for the Liberal Democrats.
How to vote and when the deadline is
If you have registered to vote you should have received a poll card with details of your polling station. You can only vote at the polling station named on the card; you don't need it with you but it is more helpful for staff if you do.
The polling stations opened at 7am and they will be open until 10pm this evening.
It is recommended to arrive with plenty of time to cast your vote.
When the results will be revealed
The count for the election will commence immediately after the deadline at 10pm this evening.
While the time of the announcement will be dependent on the turnout for the election, it is expected the results will come out around midnight.
How the previous election went
The last by-election took place in May after the MP for Putney Fleur Andersen stepped down after seven years.
The results were as follows:
Reeten BANERJI, Liberal Democrats: 310
David CARLYON, Green Party: 815Thomas MYTTON, Conservative Party: 1778
