Tooting and Earlsfield residents were shocked this morning as water from their taps ran a 'brown and muddy' colour.

Thames Water has confirmed that the colouring is from iron sediment caused by disturbances to the pipework.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: "The water is safe, though may smell or taste off."

Many residents have bought bottled water from the fear of using their off-coloured water.

Thames Water has said the water needs to be 'flushed out of the system' by keeping the taps off for a while - then opening the kitchen tap on full for a few minutes.

Some homeowners have called for further advice as their water continues to be off-coloured despite running the tap for minutes.

The water company said they are currently investigating.

No info as to when the issue will be resolved has been released.
