A local woman will be abseiling down Tooting's, The Pelican Hotel to raise money for St George's Hospital.

Kamar, 32, a teaching assistant at a local primary school, will abseil down the building on Saturday March 12 to raise money.

Speaking to Tooting Nub News she said: "I wanted to give something back.

"St George's Hospital, they helped my Mum when she was ill. It has been four years since she's passed away."

The hospital holds a special place in Kamar and her family's heart after they treated her mother for diabetes shortly before she passed away at the age of 63 from heart disease.

Kamar said: "It's been a difficult four years not having my mum at home.

"So I want to give something back to St George's Hospital for helping the family with everything we went through."

Kamar, who grew up in Tooting, saw an advert for abseiling via Instagram and signed up in September 2021.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Kamar has sky dived and zip wired from 170m up but this will be her first fundraising event.

"I like the thrill of it, but yeah I'm looking forward to it. I'm not nervous or anything yet. I think when I get up that high, that's when everything will begin, but now I'm looking forward to it," she told Nub News.

When asked about the money she's raised Kamar said: "I'm surprised by how many people have offered and gave me already which I was happy about."

Kamar's family and friends, including two of her nieces, will be there to support her as she makes her descent from the building on Saturday.

Setting out to raise £150 Kamar has already reached over £300 and the figure continues to rise with messages of well wishes filling her JustGiving Page.

Kamar told us: "I'm just happy to give something back to the NHS for everything they've done over the past few years, its obviously been hard what they've been going through and seeing it all over the media I just thought I want to do my little bit to give back to my local community."

You can donate via Kamar's JustGiving Page here.
