This Week, St George'sjoined landmarks across the country in marking Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) by lighting buildings pink and blue with funding from St George's Hospital Charity.

St George's Trust joined this expression of solidarity and compassionate support for bereaved parents by lighting the Walk on the Wild Side garden here at St George's, in memory of all the little ones that have been cared for by colleagues during their short lives.

The pink and blue colours of the lights were chosen by bereaved families back in 2010, and the garden stayed lit throughout the week of awareness and remembrance which concluded with the Wave of Light when, at 7pm, bereaved parents placed a lit candle in their window at home as an expression of remembering their baby.

Reverend Christopher van D'Arque, Head of Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care here at St George's, said:

"Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important time of year when colleagues at St George's would naturally come together with bereaved parents they have cared for and revisit the memories of their little ones whose lives they have had a share in.

"In the absence of parents this extraordinary year, these lights glow in recognition that, even for much too short a time, a unique and irreplaceable life has been lived, a baby has been born and we remember them"
