The met police officer arrested on suspicion of the murder of Sarah Everard was earlier taken to St George's Hospital with a head injury he sustained while in custody.

It is understood he has now been returned to a police station.

PC Wayne Couzens, 48, was arrested at his home in Deal, Kent, late on Tuesday (March 9) initially on suspicion of kidnap.

He was further arrested on suspicion of murder and a separate allegation of indecent exposure on Wednesday (March 10).

A woman was also arrested at the same location (March 9) on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police involved in the search for Sarah Everard yesterday (March 10) discovered human remains in Ashford, Kent.

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said:

"As you can imagine, at this early stage we are not able to confirm any identity and indeed this may take us some time.

"Specialist officers have been with Sarah's family to update them on the investigation and to continue to support them as best we possibly can."
