A much-loved art decor fountain in Tooting Bec Common has received an award from the council.
The Wandsworth Design Awards aim to 'reward high-quality design and give public recognition for building projects in Wandsworth that make a positive contribution to the borough.'
Wandsworth Council has awarded the fountain's restoration one of the winners in the 'Smaller Heritage Projects' category.
The restoration of the 1938 drinking fountain was part of the Tooting Common Heritage Project, which was completed at the end of last year.
A spokesperson for Tooting Common Heritage Project said:
"The fountain was in a good condition but it was not to working order and the stonework was heavily stained with surface deposits (from traffic and other water and airborne pollution)."
The fountain now sits as an attractive heritage feature and provides a running water supply for residents and visitors.
The winners of the 2019 awards were delayed due to the coronavirus and the usual ceremony will not be taking place.
Cllr Guy Humphries, chairman of the planning applications committee, said: "I would like to assure all our winners that they are all excellent examples of some of the most innovative, high-quality examples of design in the borough that greatly enhance their communities.
"We are also pleased that architects are putting sustainability at the heart of their designs, helping the council to meet its climate change targets."
