New water fountains have sprung up across Tooting and some of its nearby parks.

In an attempt to help reduce the amount of plastic waste left within parks, the council has added 20 new fountains across the the borough.

Rather than having to buy a bottle of water when going to Tooting Common you can now bring your along your own bottle and fill it up.

Tooting Common and Fishponds Playing Fields will both benefit from the new water fountains.

Other locations include: Battersea Park, Wandsworth Common, Christchurch Gardens, Garratt Park, Garratt Green, Fred Wells Gardens, Wandsworth Park, Coronation Gardens, Roehampton Playing Fields and Bramford Gardens.

Parks and environment spokesman Cllr Steffi Sutters said: "We hope this will lead to a big reduction in the amount of plastic waste we collect from our parks and commons.

"People can use the fountains to fill the types of re-usable bottles and containers that are growing in popularity, or a the very least stick to the one plastic bottle they've already bought and refill it when empty.

"As well as cutting down the amount of waste plastics we have to deal with, it also means a cash saving for people as they won't need to keep on buying lots of single plastic bottles of water.

Reducing waste is just one of the council's key objectives as it strives to be carbon neutral by 2030.
