Everyone over the age of 11 who lives, works, or studies in Wandsworth is being urged to take a COVID-19 PCR test after new cases of the South African variant were found in the borough and neighbouring Lambeth.
Wandsworth Council has provided more places for residents to book PCR testing following long queues and fully booked centres.
There are now 23 pharmacies that are taking bookings for PCR testing.
A spokesperson for Wandsworth Council said:
"We are grateful to all those that have made the effort to get tested so far and are aware that due to the wonderful response to the call for everyone to get tested the system and waiting times has, at times, proved to be frustrating."
From today (15 April) extra facilities for PCR testing will be available at:
Putney Leisure Centre – 9am to 3pm
Car Park rear of 67 Fernlea Road – 9am to 3pm Car Park rear of Martley House, Patmore Street – 9am to 3pm You can also get tested at our current sites: • Mount Clare House, Minstead Gardens, Roehampton• Tooting Leisure Centre, Greaves Place, Tooting
• Wandsworth Town Hall Car Park, Wandsworth High Street The 23 pharmacies where PCR tests can be booked (from 15 April) are listed on the council website. You can collect tests for home use from: • Battersea Sports Centre - 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday • Wandsworth Town Hall (Room 75) - 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday (Completed tests should be returned to the same collection site) It is important people take a PCR test if you have no symptoms as these can identify specific variants. You should also get the test if you have had the vaccine. If anyone tests positive, they must self-isolate immediately and pass on details of their contacts to NHS Test and Trace when contacted. Positive tests will then be examined in a laboratory to determine whether any of them are the variant first identified in South Africa. You can book an appointment at here. You can book online on someone else's behalf if they can't do so themselves. People who are unable to book online, and don't know someone who can book for them, can call 020 8871 6555 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm for help. You can also can order a home delivery of a PCR test as part of the variant of concern surge testing in the borough here.
