Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, Labour MP for Tooting, has been crowned the champion of a Twitter World Cup for UK Members of Parliament.

Over fourteen thousand people voted in the final of the social media competition, which saw Dr Rosena against Jeremy Corbyn, Dawn Butler and Alison Thewliss.

Dr Rosena received 14,193 votes, 46.9% of the overall voting.

The MP World Cup was created by Leeds University graduate Ben Butler.

Ben said the competition was meant to be something lighthearted during the difficult times of coronavirus.

"But I've noticed Twitter is increasingly becoming a toxic space of bullying, hatred & abuse," Ben continued.

"Regardless of your political persuasion, Members of Parliament are humans & humans deserve respect."

Dr Rosena thanked her voters but made it clear there was no time to celebrate.

In a statement on Twitter she said: "There is a pandemic ripping our country apart, time to crack on."
