Tooting Police Station will have relocated all of its policing teams by the end of October.

This comes following the announcement of the station's closure by the end of March 2021.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth Police said that the building 'fails to provide a modern policing facility that is fit for the 21st century'.

The closure is part of the 'Met's Estate Transformation programme' which aims to invest in modern buildings and support new ways to accommodate the force.

Wandsworth Police added: "In turn, this will ensure our staff provide the best possible service to London and local communities."

All of the policing teams currently using the building will be relocated to other stations.

The seven neighbourhood police teams will be moved to Earlsfield and Mitcham Police Station by the end of September.

Twelve safer schools officers will also move into Jubilee House, Lavender Hill Police Station and Mitcham Police Station.

A training team based at the site will also relocate to Jubilee House.

Wandsworth Police said that despite the officers relocation, they will continue to provide a localised service.

"Each ward has two dedicated police officers and one PCSO and all officers remain within a 20-minute journey time of their wards," they said.

One resident responded to the closure on social media, saying: "Sad news. We know the police officers will continue to do their very best no matter what the powers-in-charge decide, but having local police stations in the community was so reassuring."
