Tooting this is an opportunity to nominate someone who you think has excelled at helping local people achieve their goals.

The deadline to nominate someone for an Active Wandsworth award is Sunday January, 16.

The importance of sport and activity has become clearer than ever against the backdrops of the pandemic and lockdowns.

Benefits not only include physical health but also mental health and wellbeing.

The annual awards celebrate and acknowledge the the talent of local sportspeople, coaches, volunteers, schools, organisations and clubs.

Categories for the award include:

- Volunteer and Junior Volunteer of the Year

- Active School of the Year

- Sportsperson and Junior Sportsperson of the Year There is also a Mayor's Award which recognises how an individual, organisation or project has increased opportunities for disabled people in Wandsworth to participate in sport or physical activity. Active Wandsworth is a partnership between Wandsworth Council, Enable Leisure and Culture and other organisations such as Place Leisure, Roehampton University and Healthwatch. Winners will be announced at a ceremony Friday March, 4 hosted by reporter, journalist and Sky Sports TV presenter Emma Paton at the Wandsworth Civic Suite. Got a story?
